How do you combine working from home with the kids at home? Wundermart has asked Charly Cares to help think about this. The solution was a complete package for all employees. Why did Wundermart want to arrange childcare for employees? We called Rody, Heart of organization, for the answer.
The conversation starts at the beginning: Tell us, what exactly is Wundermart? Rody: “We facilitate hotels and offices in successfully running unmanned shops. We do this by connecting our customers to our platform of partners through technology. These shops are open 24/7, data-driven, and have a wide and varied product range. Consumers get the product they want at any time. On our website, it says ‘grab, pay & go!’ and it really works just as simply. At this moment, all our employees are working from home. Fortunately, everyone can continue their work there.”

And working from home, is that possible when the kids are also home?
"During this second wave, it often happens that schools or daycare centers are unable to accommodate the children of our employees due to staff shortages. They are then home all day or in the afternoon, during after-school times. That can be busy and sometimes stressful. I experience that myself at times, in addition to it also being super cozy.
To relieve our employees, we thought: 'Well, let's help them with a moment when they don't have to think about the kids.' By assisting our employees with childcare, they can focus on other things. It doesn't necessarily have to be work. It can also be quality time together with their partner. Then they can look deeply into each other's eyes for a moment, which is also important." says Rody with a laugh.

“We didn’t hear any complaints, you know. And there was no ask if we as an employer wanted to think along about childcare. But you also notice that it is quite intensive to work from home when the kids are also there. That’s why we wanted to do something. It was an initiative from us as an employer. As the HR responsible, I am glad for the opportunity to set this up. Taking care of your people is always good for the company.”
The big question for Rody is what the employees' response was. “Everyone appreciates this immensely, only positive responses. A large part of our people is already using it.”
Of course, we also want to know why Wundermart chose Charly Cares: “If you want to offer something to your people, you want to do it as simply as possible. In a way that suits everyone. Almost all our employees live in different cities. We do not wish to offer a different form of childcare in every city. The infrastructure of Charly Cares makes it easy. Their response is short but sweet: "We trust that you have taken the necessary precautions. We also trust that all people involved take their responsibility and don't get each other sick. Your Babysitting Angels might be a tad young at times, but they too have a great sense of responsibility."
