Five tips to throw a party at home together with your ( babysitter) kids.

Singing in the cold, along the doors with a homemade lantern and coming home with a bag full of candies. This year we are doing it just a little differently, but still just as fun - promised! With these tips, Sint-Maarten will be one big celebration at home as well. And for a healthier version, you can of course just replace the candies with healthy snacks. Are you joining in?

Sint Maarten tips: candy
Sint Maarten tips: candy

Tip 1: Scavenger hunt indoors

Let the search begin! Organize a big scavenger hunt indoors and perhaps even in the garden. Hide the sweets in the craziest places: under the bed, in the washing machine, between the towels. Whoever finds the candy first gets to keep it. Who ends up with the most candies?

Tip 2: Digital singing

The children may not be able to visit their favorite neighbors or grandparents right now. But singing a St. Martin song is always possible. Live via video call or by recording a fun video. Who knows, they might even receive some treats or a video back. Don't forget to turn off the light? Then everyone can see the beautiful lantern shine.

Tip: Give the video a musical twist. Grab an instrument or maybe just a pot with a wooden spoon. Let the show begin!

Tip 3: Through the doors in the house

If you can't go outside through the doors, why not go through the doors in the house? Hide a candy behind every door in the house for the children. Bet you have more doors in the house than you think! Of course, before the doors open, there should be some nice singing.

Tip 4: Parade through the house

Turn off all the lights and walk with the lanterns in a parade through the house and the garden. Make a stop at each corner of the room, where you perform short tasks. Think of singing a song or playing a short game. Whoever wins might get some treats.

Tip: Place some candies along the route in the house!

Tip 5: Lantern competition

Organize a competition with the kids in the street to see who can make the most beautiful lantern. Put all of your creations in the window so that the neighbors can see them well and vote. And who knows, the winner might get a very nice prize.
