1. Travel across the Netherlands with the kids

Most kids love adventure and discovering new places. And what better way to experience that than by train? Peeking curiously out the window to see what’s out there, watching new faces pass by again and again. So leave the car at home for once and head out together by train.

Did you know that children up to and including 11 years old can travel with you for free? That makes traveling not only super easy, but also much more affordable!

Are you planning to travel with the kids by NS soon? Order your Kids Vrij subscription here. Do note that it’s unclear how long this subscription will remain free, so keep an eye on that.

  1. Children’s Book Week

On October 4th, Children’s Book Week also kicked off. For 10 days, the entire Netherlands celebrates children’s books. Schools and libraries give extra attention to the event by organizing fun activities.

This year, Children’s Book Week has a spooky twist. The theme is: “Frightfully Scary!”

Of course, there is also the traditional Children’s Book Week gift. This year, it’s the book “Kattensoep” by Janneke Schotveld (illustrated by Annet Schaap). Bookstores are giving away the Children’s Book Week gift for free when you spend at least €10 on children’s books.

Tip: Check out the library in your area for fun activities. These events are often completely free.
