Nina, Saar and Maxime on their experience

A great babysitter is more than just someone who keeps an eye on the kids. At Charly Cares, we believe that every Angel brings her own strengths and qualities, and that's what makes the difference. One has years of experience with babies, another excels at homework support, and yet another has gone the extra mile to learn First Aid for kids. In this blog, three of our Angels share the skill they're truly proud of.

Nina: First Aid skill

"As a babysitter, you naturally want children to feel safe and happy with you. Still, I sometimes felt a little uncertain when something unexpected happened. What if a child chokes? Or takes a hard fall? That's why I completed a Children's First Aid through Charly Cares. During the course, I learned not only what to do in emergency situations, but also how to stay calm and act quickly. Now I know exactly what to do when something unexpected happens."

"That's reassuring for me, but I also know that parents really appreciate it too. I now go into every babysitting job with much more confidence, and all the activities are even more fun. Like playing a game, sharing a laugh, or reading a book together. For me, Children's First Aid is truly a skill every babysitter should have!"

Saar: homework support

"What I love about homework support is that you can really make a difference for a child. It's so rewarding to see a child suddenly grasp what's being asked of them after a bit of explanation. Thanks to my background in history and social studies, my strengths lie particularly in subjects where reading comprehension, making connections, and explaining concepts are key. I especially enjoy helping with assignments where a child needs structure, needs to organise the material, or is struggling to understand the core of a topic."

"Personally, I find it important to break homework down into small, manageable steps. I also try to tune in to what a child needs during our sessions. Sometimes that's more explanation; sometimes it's mostly encouragement. When something is difficult, I take the time to explain it step by step and look together for an approach that works for that particular child. If a child really doesn't feel like doing homework, I try to give them a brief boost of motivation without putting on too much pressure. Sometimes it helps to take a short break and do something else, so their mind can settle a little. After that, they can usually start again with much better focus. In this way, I try to make homework support not just educational, but also enjoyable and motivating!"

Maxime: experience with babies

"I've been babysitting for families with children of all ages for a very long time, but if I'm being honest, I truly love it most with babies and very young children. That was always the case: when my sisters had babies, I would beg them to let me babysit. Because of that, I've built up a lot of experience with babies: I know exactly how to prepare a bottle (though I always double-check with the parents, since everyone does it a little differently), how to change a nappy properly, and how to soothe a crying baby."

"What I love most about little ones is watching them discover the world around them. With babies, you try to coax out a smile with the silliest faces and sounds, and as they get a bit older, you get to witness their first words or first steps. I think that's so special!"
